"4th BATTALION, SOMERSET LIGHT INFANTRY, 43rd (WESSEX) DIVISION
DYMCHURCH - MONDAY 29 MAY 1944
This Roll of Honour has been compiled following requests for information appertaining to a Second World War tragedy which occurred on the above date. Probably due to the war time restrictions which were of obvious necessity in place at the time of the unfortunate accident, and those which remained until recently, has resulted in several attempts by interested parties in times past being foiled in their attempts to glean more relevant details. It was particularly heartening to learn when being approached for information, that the reason for same was with a view to having a permanent and suitable memorial erected at Dymchurch, Kent, as a fitting tribute to the officer and other ranks of the 4th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry. They died as the result of a demonstration by Lieutenant Guy Wilson in the use of the Hawkins Anti-Tank mine, which went tragically wrong with the loss of several of his platoon members on the beach at Dymchurch, Kent.

HUNT, ALBERT. Private, 5675821. Aged 26.
Born Birmingham, Warwickshire. Resided Derby, Derbyshire. Son of David and Annie Hunt.
Husband of Gwendoline Hunt of Derby, Derbyshire. Buried Derby (Nottingham Road) Cemetery, Derbyshire. Grave Ref: Sec. F. Grave 74970."
