I am trying to find the parents of Chandler Dowling, born ca 1826 in New Brunswick, Canada (possibly from Harvey Parish). He married Susannah Buchanan (from Hopewell, New Brunswick) on May 23,1850. They had the following children: Emela b.1853, Mary b.1854, Phebe Ann b.1855, Chandler b.1858, Edwin b.1859, Jane b. 1860, Warren b. 1862, Irene b.1865, Lucinda b.1867 and William b. 1869. I havea also been told that the Dowling family first settled in Prince Edward Island before going to New Brunswick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Fred

My maternal grandmother was Gussie Esther Nancy Elizabeth (Gussie) Dowling. she married Berry Lee Adams. My grandmother was 26 yrs. old when she died of a "bad heart". She left behind my mother Mary Lee Adams, Sollie Mansfield Adams, and Versa Laverne Adams. My mother was the eldest of Gussie's children. Uncle Sollie died in 1964 in a hunting accident. Southern Dowling/Boutwell connection

Hello, Dowlings:
I am hoping some one of you can give me some guidance regarding the connection between the Boutwells and the descendants of Frampton Dowling. I am descended from the WILLIAM BOUTWELL (b: 1750-1760, d: 1843 Pike Co., AL) who was married to JANE DOWLING. According to current Boutwell thinking, William was the brother of Mary and Nancy, who married James and John Dowling. But there seems to be a difference between the Dowling and the Boutwell records, and this is where I would like some help. Dowling records show that Mary and Nancy were daughters of Butonhead Boutwell, while current Boutwell records show Mary and Nancy were daughters of Lionel Delaney Boutwell, supposed son of Burtonhead.

This is my question: Do the Dowlings have any documents to support that Mary and Nancy were the daughters of Burtonhead Boutwell? Do any Dowling records show the existence of an individual named Lionel Delaney Boutwell (or Lioney, or Loney of a time period that could make him the father of Mary and Nancy? Do the Dowling records show William Boutwell mentioned above who married Jane Downg?

Help will be greatly appreciated. - Joan

My name is Terri and I found your names and addresses while doing research on my husband's Dowling Ancestry. I have been working on this for about 6 months and I do have some info, but would like to know if anyone out there has more that they are willing to share. I will be more than happy to share anything I may have too. Below is what I have:

Frampton or Hampton Dowling born before 1643 in Ireland;

his son; Robert Dowling born aabout 1700;

his son; Robert Dowling born about 1730, died 2-23-1808
married to Sarah Guinn (daughter of John Guinn, b. 1705 & Sarah Harper, b
1711) born 1732, died 1808

their daughter; Jane Dowling born 1770--1774, died before 2-16-1857 or 1853 married to William Boutwell, b. 1756-1760 (I have some more info on Boutwells)

That is what I have. If anyone can help please contact me; also, if anyone
needs any info I have on the Boutwells let me know. Terri.

- Joan

his son; Robert Dowling born aabout 1700;

his son; Robert Dowling born about 1730, died 2-23-1808
married to Sarah Guinn (daughter of John Guinn, b. 1705 & Sarah Harper, b

their daughter; Jane Dowling born 1770--1774, died before 2-16-1857 or 1853 married to William Boutwell, b. 1756-1760 (I have some more info on Boutwells)

Both Robert and son John Dowling were memorialized with headstones placed in the Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church cemetery in Darlington, SC. If I remember correctly, I read a newspaper clipping from the 60's when those headstones were placed by the DAR.
My notes have Robert Dowling enlisting as a private by May of 1777 with Captain William Vause's company of the 12th Virginia Regiment. Later, he served with the 6th Regiment of North Carolina Continental Infantry with Captain White's unit. Supposedly, he fought at Musgrove's Mill, Guilford Courthouse, Cowpens, and King's Mountain.
John Dowling enlisted on November 4, 1775 with Pinckney's 1st South Carolina Regiment at the age of 16. His company was commanded by Levacher de Saint Marie. In 1782, John is known to have been a guerilla with "Swamp Fox" Francis Marion. John and brother James served in Benton's Regiment which fought under Francis Marion.

I would be delighted to share my information with you and anyone else on
the list who is interested. I also have the names of some other
correspondents on the Dowling line from another list, who might be
interested in corresponding with you as well. I will ask permission
from them before I send their email addresses, and let you know.
I have some really interesting old stories of my great grandmother,
Julia Dowling. I was going to share them with a list I belonged to, but
I found that the Pasco County Historical Society was using the little
booklet of stories to raise money, so I became concerned about the legal
issues and didn't post it on the list, but I can share my own personal
stories about the Dowling family.
I am very interested in finding out more about the collateral
line that married into the line, Caroline Center. I know that her
father's name was William Center; he worked as an accountant for the
David Yulee who built the railroad in Florida. It will be fun to share
information. Please, anyone who has information about the families,
let's share!
