Hello Brian,
Thanks for the additional and interesting history of my family! I always knew of my Great Uncle Michael who was one step of the law. He never gave up fighting for Irish Independence and therefore had to leave the country rather fast. My family in New York/New Jersey never heard from him after his flight across the sea. His descendants (I hope) are out there somewhere.

Actually, my Grandfather Patrick was born in 1889 in Ardenteggle, son of William Dowling. William did have brothers. So he avoided these particular bust-ups you found! Patrick’s nephew is still on the farm. I remember the old house with the dirt packed floor attached to the barn-like stepping back in time when I visited in the early 70’s. My relative of course lives in a new house though the old one still stands.

Patrick sailed into New York Harbor when he was a young man. I found the ships manifest with his info at Ellis Island. He sailed with several other young fellows all from a De La Salle school. I contacted De La Salle to find out about this relationship but no info from them. The religious organization sent them across and seems to have given them each $20 for their pockets. When they arrived in New York they stayed at the De La Salle Building in Manhattan. I did a google earth on the building but it is gone-now a modern high-rise. I will send more info soon.

With every good wish, Paula Dowling Nomura

Thanks Brian,
I hope this email finds you in good health.

I have my Grandfather’s birth certificate, death certificate and marriage certificate and though I haven’t ordered it, seen the copy of the manifest from 1913 when he arrived into New York harbor. A year later his older brother William arrived in New York. William had a pub on Grand Street in Brooklyn. Patrick married Agnes Marie Devlin in 1919, he 23 yrs, she 27yrs.old. William had two boys and Patrick had two boys and two girls.

You’re absolutely right about Michael. He was my Grandfather Patrick’s uncle. I’ve been looking at the Killishin RC parish records for baptisms and marriages. The only possible relation I’ve found is Patrick and William’s Grand-mother Mary McGrath from 1836. I’ve asked my relatives in Ireland about the date to help verify the relation but no response yet. There are some possible Williams for my great-great-grand-father but the damaged paper and illegible writing make them just so-only possible-until I have more data.

You have quite a website with extensive research. I commend you and your fortitude!

Will send more later. Keep in touch and keep well,
Paula.
