of Stone, Staffs In 1837 with brothers Edwin and Frederick he entered into father's partnership as Shoe Manufacturers of Stafford and Northampton, under the name "Thos Bostock & Sons". In 1839, with Frederick, he retired from the Stafford business and took the Northampton branch on their own account. In 1840, with Edwin and Frederick, he re-entered his father's partnership on condition that each partner should receive 5% interest on his amount of capital in the trade, other assets being divided equally. He was very musical and introduced the Sol-la system into Stone, and held Glee classes at his house and a number of those trained by him gathered at his graveside and sang "Brief Life is here our Portion". His workmen struck on his introduction of two sewing machines into the shoe factory, but two girls worked them and stuck by him. They were escorted home for meals by 12 policemen, and Thomas carried a life preserver. When he had built the factory the men struck because they were compelled to work there rather than to take their work home. DFR
