Might be a connection. My great grandmother and grandfather were Michael Dawson and Ellen Dowling. Possibly brothers and sisters? They were married in St. John, New Brunswick Canada, moved to Minnesota and descendents moved to Yakima, WA early in the 1900s. The names you mentioned are not familiar but there could be some connection.

Joe,

My gg grandfather, Michael Dooley came from Ballinakill Parish, County Laois. Born Sept 1826, the son of John Dooley and Mary Feen. He was one of 7 children, 2 Michaels, 2 Catherines, John, James and Mary. He came to US in 1849 and settled in Peru, IL, and was married to Mary Tarpy. Don't know much else about them at this time. It is not known if any other family member emigrated.

Interesting that you mention Daly. Michael's son, John Michael, married Catherine Daily in 1884 in Canton, IL. She was the daughter of Michael Daily (County Galway) and Julia Carlin (County Meath).

As for your county search, from what I've been told, Counties Offaly, Laois and Dublin would be good places to start. I've also heard that there a lot of Dooleys in the Cork area.

Lastly, my father and brother are named Joe. Good Name.

Good Luck,

John Dooley.

Where do I go from here? Needed are departure date/port, arrival date/port. And a bunch of other things, but this will do for now.

I have information that descendants of his siblings may still live in County Laois but have been unable to contact them, or receive a response. Are there any Dooleys out there with a Ballinakill connection who can help solve the mystery? Thanks.
